For decades, the restaurant industry has suffered from high turnover rates, due to low wages and the lack of employee benefits.

While health and dental insurance, along with retirement plans have been far-fetched ideas, the owner of one San Francisco bistro is bringing change to the forefront. Jennifer Piallat, owner of Zazie and one time waitress, understands the plight of the restaurant worker and has taken controversial steps to keep her staff on board and happy. Piallat has added a surcharge of $1.25/person on all checks, which is stated on every menu, in order to provide her staff with full benefits.
Regardless of their title, each staff member receives full health and dental insurance, paid sick leave, and is offered various 401(k) plans.

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, KFC partnered with experimental food experts The Robin Collective, to sweeten the deal and woo their coffee-drinking customers with something other than Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Lucky customers in select UK KFC restaurants will be able to indulge in a cup of Joe, but not just any cup of Joe. The cup is actually a cookie wrapped in edible sugar paper, lined with white chocolate that slowly melts over time; it secretly sweetens your coffee and prepares your cookie to be devoured.

EyesHave you ever gone back and forth while trying to decide what type of pizza you want?

If you have, Pizza Hut has come up with a way to give you customized recommendations for your perfect pizza – and it only takes 2.5 seconds. The pizza chain is giving customers in the United Kingdom a look at what it calls the “subconscious menu.” It’s a tablet-based menu that tracks patrons’ eye movements while looking at a variety of toppings on the screen.

Of the 4,896 possible pizza combinations, the menu will recommend one based on the topping or toppings customers looked at on the tablet screen the longest.

“This menu innovation really is ahead of its time,” a Pizza Hut spokesperson said.
